2013 Chevrolet Malibu 2.0L 2LTZ turbo adds needed power but misses the mark (Photos)

In one of the most highly contested segments, mid size family sedan’s, more power is always an added benefit to any offering and Chevrolet has done just that with there latest Malibu. For there 2013 Malibu, Chevrolet has added a turbocharged option as standard for there 2LTZ trim model. Don’t confuse adding a turbo as synonymous with excitement as this 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, although more powerful, still lacks that bit of excitement and character that midsize family sedan buyers are looking for.

Base price for the Turbo model starts out at under 30,000 at $29,700. All the upper trim options from the 1LTZ trim level carries over.In addition to the 6-speed automatic transmission, 2LTZ includes heated leather-appointed front seats with vinyl perimeter accents and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror. Exterior 2LTZ details include 18-inch machine spoke aluminum wheels, LED taillamps, chrome door handles and front grille with silver inserts and chrome surround. But now, instead of the standard four cylinder, you’re treated to a full on 62 extra HP and 69 lb-ft of torque boosting power ratings up to 259 HP and 260 lb ft of torque.

According to the latest tests and reviews, most praise the new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu for being an overall competent package with plenty of value. The added turbo improves gas mileage up to 21 City and 30 Highway. Also, there’s now obviously more increased acceleration and added auditory noise from the twin exhausts. The new Epsilon platform means that road noise is a little more subdued from the previous generation Malibu and GM engineers were smart enough to improve handling just a tad with a revised front suspension.

Many feel that the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu turbo, although faster, lacks some of the excitement and character that other competitors offer. The added curb weight doesn't help much either. In addition, other competitors from Ford and Honda have better interior room and fuel economy, two things that you can’t overlook in this heated market.

On it’s own merit, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo is a great American Sedan now with plenty of power, but in this market, there are other nicer options for your money.
