Driving the Buick Encore for a week was a more than pleasant experience. Searching my brain for an appropriate adjective, I decided on “lovely”, knowing that my husband would probably roll his eyes. But lovely it is, in appearance, comfort, amenities and ride. Depending on the situation and conditions, the Encore could become captivating, satisfying, even thrilling!
Categorized as a small luxury crossover, the Encore has the interior comfort and features that make it a great daily and family vehicle. The quiet tuning and Bose Active Noise Cancellation technology make listening to the audio system or having a conversation easy. Even rear seat passengers do not need to strain to hear or raise their voice to be heard. And with 38.8 inches headroom and 35.8 inches legroom, adults will not feel crowded.
The Encore has an Ecotec Turbo 1.4-liter VVT, DOHC 4-cyinder engine, designed to deliver the power when asked for, while conserving fuel under normal conditions. The 6-speed automatic transmission also contributes to fuel efficiency. What sets the Encore apart from a typical family sedan or wagon is the 4-wheel drive. While not engineered for extreme off-road conditions, it will easily go over rougher, sandier, muddier, hillier and curvier terrain than a more basic car.
Outfitted with all the expected safety and technological features, Buick has included a number of additional features that make the Encore more appealing. Many manufacturers are including a rear back-up camera in their package; Encore also has forward collision alert and lane departure warning, Ultrasonic front and rear parking assist is standard, as are rain sensing windshield wipers. And who can resist trying out the remote vehicle starter system. This is Texas! Lets get that air on before we even get in the car! And for the rare winter day that is really cold, the heated seats and steering wheel are greatly appreciated.
The estimated fuel economy for the Encore is 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. That is an EPA estimated savings of $2000 in fuel costs over five years compared to the average new vehicle. The standard vehicle price is $28,190, and that includes a lengthy list of premium standard features, including 6 months Onstar directions and connections with automatic crash response and turn-by-turn navigation. A number of optional packages are available for personalizing your new car.
