A fun place to be on Sunday, August 18 will be in downtown Shelbyville for the 34th annual Bears of Blue River Parade. Shelbyville is located off I-74 about 30 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, IN. The parade will begin at 1:00 PM but it is suggested that you arrive early with lawn chairs and find a spot in the shade to enjoy the parade. The theme for this years parade is “Welcome Home, Soldier”. Major General R. Martin Umbarger, Adjutant General for the Indiana National Guard will serve as the grand marshal.
This is a big event for the town of Shelbyville and they will have the public square blocked off from auto traffic. You will find lots of free parking on the side streets and merchants lots. To enjoy all the festivities it is best to get as close to the downtown square as you can. Anyplace along the parade route will be good for watching the parade.
There will be plenty to eat as non-profit food venders are set up with something to please everyone.
