2013 BCS National Championship Game: Facts and figures

Tonight, the 2012-13 BCS National Championship Game will take place in Miami, Florida as the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide. Here are some facts and figures heading into the contest.

-Since the National Championship Game began in 1998, here are the records of all teams that have played.

-This is the fourth time the National Championship Game has been played in Miami. The other three took place in 2000 (Oklahoma vs. Florida State), 2004 (USC vs. Oklahoma), and 2008 (Florida vs. Oklahoma).

-This is the third time Alabama has played in the National Championship Game in the past five years. They defeated Texas in 2009 and LSU in 2011. This is Notre Dame’s first trip.

-Of the 14 prior National Championship Games, the No. 1 team has won seven times and the No. 2 team has won seven times.
