Speaking of the United States financial crisis, on New Year's Eve Day, Monday, Dec. 31, NBC Chicago reported President Barack Obama urged lawmakers to pass the Fiscal Cliff deal by midnight tonight!
"President Barack Obama and congressional leaders are scrambling to bridge their differences Monday, New Year's Eve, the last day before a midnight deadline for fiscal cliff negotiations."
According to The Hill on Dec. 31,
"Senate leaders are racing against the clock to reach a "fiscal cliff" deal the House and Senate can approve on New Year's Eve."
Are Banks Open New Year's Eve, December 31, 2012?
A federal and public holiday, New Year's Day is always observed on the first day in January. It follows New Year's Eve which is also an abbreviated business day in most banks. This year, New Year's Day is observed on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

Some Rhode Island banks will have an abbreviated business day on New Year's Eve and close early, some by noon. Greenwood Credit Union will close New Year's Eve at 3 p.m. It's best to call your local bank branch before venturing out. Of course, almost all ATMs are open New Year's Eve except where they may be located inside a supermarket or convenience store that is also closed for New Year's Eve Day.

Because New Year's Day is also a post office holiday, just about all banks in the Providence, Rhode Island area are closed as well. Banks that are closed on New Year's Day and New Year's Eve will reopen for normal business Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Greenwood Credit Union's holiday schedule reports the bank is closed New Year's Day.
Bank of America reports banking centers will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year's Day.
