Untreated mental illness can lead to very real tragedies.
An Ohio woman who stopped taking her medication allegedly lost control and almost killed her baby recently.
The Ohio News-Sentinel reported on Saturday that 22-year-old Sasha J. Hunt stopped taking her prescribed medication for bipolar disorder when she allegedly tried to suffocate her three-month-old son.
The woman’s husband, Nathan Hunt, reportedly found the infant hidden in a closet on his stomach with a sock covering his mouth last week. The sock was held in place with duct tape to ensure the baby could not breathe.
Nathan Hunt rescued the child and confronted his wife. He demanded she turn herself into either the hospital or to police according to the Huffington Post.
Once the woman arrived at the hospital, her husband and mother -in-law reported the incident to police.
She was officially charged with felony attempted murder on Saturday as well as neglect of a dependent.
The police report documented that Hunt had stopped taking her medication, which caused erratic behavior including throwing an air conditioner out of the window as well as kicking holes in the walls.
Nathan Hunt allegedly told the police that his wife had put bruises on the child. When he confronted her, Sasha apparently said that she hated her child and wanted him dead.
