In the latest installment of "inappropriate Halloween costumes," former "Dancing With The Stars" dancer Julianne Hough sported blackface at a Friday night party, then apologized for it the next day, reports People magazine.
Hough and a group of friends went to the Casamigos Tequila Halloween party in Beverly Hills dressed as characters from the Netflix series "Orange is the New Black."
The 25-year-old dancer and actress was dressed as Crazy Eyes, played by Uzo Aduba, wearing dark makeup on her face and neck, an orange jumpsuit with a prison ID saying "Crazy Eyes," and her hair knotted to resemble the character's trademark hairdo.
Saturday, Hough tweeted:
I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.
Hough's Halloween misstep is just the latest in a long line of bad costume choices made by celebrities.
Other notable offenders include Ted Danson's appearance in blackface at a Friar's Club roast in 1993 honoring his then-girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg, Prince Harry sporting a Nazi costume in 2005, Bill Maher dressing as Steve Irwin shortly after Irwin's death in September 2006, Paris Hilton's "sexy Indian" look for 2010 and Chris Brown's Taliban getup on 2011.
