2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for fans of the Mighty Boosh.
Following an announcement in June that the comedy troupe would be reforming and making an appearance at Festival Supreme in October, stars of the British-cult television series have been performing warm-up gigs in London and unveiled a new song on XFM Radio on Saturday, the Velvet Onion reported.
The Mighty Boosh's new song is called "Sunflash & Bublay" and puts a glam-rock spin on a duet between Sunflash and Bublay, two characters birthed from the minds of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, British comedians who formed the Mighty Boosh after realizing their shared love of surreal comedy. Fielding and Barratt eventually teamed up with Fielding's brother Mike, Dave Brown, and an American comedian Rich Fulcher to launch a radio show, followed by a three season run of their television series, "The Mighty Boosh."
There has been long been talk of a Mighty Boosh album and the single was recorded at the Electric Ladyland studios in New York City several years ago as part of an unreleased album. "Sunflash & Bublay" was produced by Dave Westlake of the Sneaker Pimps and members of the Boosh crew, including Fielding and Barratt, along with Dave Brown, Mike Fielding, and Rich Fulcher. The new single is not available for download, but fans are hoping that the long-awaited album will be released soon.
The Mighty Boosh have been busy over the last few months as they prepare for their performance at Festival Supreme in Santa Monica later this month. This past week, the comedy group treated fans to two intimate warm-up shows at the Soho Theatre. Dave Brown, who played Bollo the Ape on "The Mighty Boosh" television series, told a reporter for The Independent
It was great being back together again. Altrough Rich [Fulcher] is still in L.A. He'll join us out there. The set is a musical one with comedy links in between; it's is a mixture of old and new. But with Noel and Julian, there's always new."
The Mighty Boosh never officially split up, but they have not worked together since 2009's Boosh Live: Future Sailors tour. Both Fielding and Barratt have pursued solo projects, but the warm-up gigs in London are the first time the whole Boosh crew has been seen together on stage in nearly four years.
