Google Glass looks to have an overseas competitor. This product is called Intelligent Glass and is made by Docomo according to Decoded Science on Oct. 3.

Though the product is a wearable tech device for the eyes, it has several different functions. It will allow the user to translate signs, photos, menus and the like as well as use facial recognition to help the wearer remember names.

The article notes that Japan is hoping to create an easier atmosphere when conducting international business, which they are vying for. As Japanese is a harder language to learn, this device would allow the wearer to translate to any language from Japanese with ease. There's no buttons you need to push when wearing this either. The translation will happen automatically when the user looks at text.

In terms of facial recognition, the device will be able to compare certain facial features to a database that it is connected to in a smartphone directory. The phone will bring up the person's name and where they work. Of course, this means that you'll have to have a clear photo of every person in your phone's contact list as well as any information you want to remember. However, you can add the entries manually with the Glass as you go.

Similar to Google Glass, the Intelligent Glass is not available in stores as it is still going through development. However, the article did not indicate whether or not Intelligent Glass has a similar Explorer program to Google's. A NY Times blog did note that a spokesman for the company hoped the device would be ready by the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
