CBS News reported on Thursday that a man was arrested at Southwest Washington courthouse after he destroyed the birthday cake of a 9-year-old child.

The incident occurred after a woman brought a cake for her daughter into the Cowliz County Hall of Justice courthouse to keep her dog from eating it in the car. After the cake cleared security, it was placed on a table where a man took it upon himself to demolish the cake, smashing his hand into it and eating as much cake as he could manage.

A deputy at the courthouse tried to stop the man from attacking the cake, but to no avail. Eventually deputies were able to wrestle the man to the ground and handcuff him.

The cake molester has been identified as 50-year-old Robert Fredrickson. Fredrickson has been charged with third-degree theft charges and perhaps a dose of shame. The entire incident was caught on film.

A local Safeway store made a second cake, free of charge. Fredrickson had reportedly exhibited bizarre behavior in the past, according to Gary Hooper, who runs a cafe in the courthouse lobby. Hooper told reporters that Fredrickson visited his cafe one day, ordered a sandwich, began eating it immediately, but claimed to have no money to pay for the food.
