The Illinois Library Association (ILA) held the 2012 Illinois Library Association Annual Conference in Peoria in October. Recently, the ILA Annual Conference was held in Rosemont (2011), Chicago (2010), Peoria (2009), Chicago (2008), Springfield (2007), Chicago (2006), Peoria (2005), Chicago (2004), Springfield (2003), and Chicago (2002).
There were 1,124 attendees, and 124 booths. Of those attendees, 554 early bird registrations accounted for 75% of final paid registration figures; 135 advance registrations accounted for 19%; and 42 late and on-site registrations accounted for 6%. In December, the ILA posted the 2011-12 ILA Annual Report, a special issue of the Illinois Library Association Reporter (Volume XXX, Issue 6).

The Illinois Chapter of the SLA (SLA IL) hosted the 2012 SLA Annual Conference, which was held in Chicago from the 15th to the 18th of July, 2012. For the SLA 2012 Conference Service Project, the SLA IL led an excursion to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (http://www.chicagosfoodbank.org) on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
The SLA Illinois booth was also a collection points for donations of books and money for Open Books. The latter is a Chicago-based non-profit organization that promotes literacy by providing books and literacy programs to students in grades K – 12.
As it had been thirty-seven years since the last SLA Annual Meeting, the SLA IL had been held in Chicago, the eleven-member 2012 Restaurant Guide Committee developed the “SLA 2012 Restaurant Guide – 37” over a ten month period, as related by Suzanne Arist and Judith Kolata.
As related by library student Brittany Adams, for the SLA IL Chapter Outing on June 16, 2012, members visited the Lenhardt Library in the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Regenstein Center. Director Leora Siegel gave a tour some items in the rare book collection.

A member of the Illinois Chapter, John DiGilio, National Manager of Research Services for Reed Smith, LLP in Chicago, Illinois was elected to the 2012 SLA Board of Directors as Treasurer. The other three new board members were Kate Arnold, who was elected President-Elect; Kama Siegel, who was elected Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect; and Tara Murray, who was elected Division Cabinet Chair-Elect. The lection closed Wednesday, September 26, 2012 with 2,108 votes.
On October 3, 2012, the Illinois Chapter announced, “The SLA hospitality table at the annual conference covered its raffle expenses and then some so on behalf of the chapter $200 was donated to Open Books and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.” The Illinois Chapter held a meeting on September 27, 2012, at Bar Toma in Chicago’s Gold Coast, a chance to conduct chapter business, socialize, and meet with SLA President Brent Mai.

On December 17th EOS International announced it had gained fifty-four new clients through November. “EOS is proud of its sales accomplishments so far in 2012 and we predict steady growth throughout next year”, stated Vice President Salvatore Provenza.
