2012 TV: Moments that made you cry

As 2012 comes to a close, here’s a look back at some of the TV moments that made you cry this past year.

4. “The Vampire Diaries,” “O Come, all ye Faithful:” In one of the sadder moments of the show this season, after discovering the hybrids' betrayal Klaus was forced to sacrifice the remaining 12, excluding Tyler. The scene, set to “Silent Night” was cinematic, violent and tragic. In an act of further revenge he drowned Tyler’s mother leaving Tyler on the run and setting up the second half of the season.

3. “How I Met Your Mother,” “The Final Page, Part Two:” Barney told Ted that he was planning to propose to Patrice and swore him to secrecy. In an act of selflessness, Ted told Robin so that she could stop the engagement, letting Robin go for good. Robin and Ted’s discussion in the limousine was bittersweet before she headed into the World Wide News building to meet Barney. The closing shot of Ted looking out over NYC from his GNB building opening party inter-cut with a newly engaged Barney and Robin just made you want to cry a little.

2. “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Flight,” “Going, Going, Gone” and “Remember the Time:” Spread out over multiple episodes the show covered the plane crash that affected nearly all of Seattle Grace’s doctors. At the end of last season Lexie succumbed to the injuries she suffered in the crash. The rest of the doctors were stranded in the woods and eventually rescued. The start of the season followed their recovery and the death of Mark Sloan (McSteamy) from injuries he sustained in the crash. Mark and Lexie’s deaths were heartbreaking and showcased what the show does best, make viewers cry.

1. “Sons of Anarchy,” “Laying Pipe:” Jax and some of the SAMCRO members were sent to jail on trumped up charges. While in jail Jax is forced by Damon Pope to choose someone to die in a prison fight as payback. Jax delays his decision in an effort to buy time leading Opie to make the choice for him. Knowingly going into a fight that he would not win made Opie’s death all the more tragic.
