On April 19, Disney Sports announced a new race at Disneyland Resort The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is a women’s race, and the inaugural weekend of running events will take place Jan. 27-29, 2012.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is marketed to women, with runDisney offering the following description of the race:
“Celebrate your inner Miss Bell at the new half marathon for women, full of pixie dust and Never, Never Land adventure.”
Finishers will receive a new Tinker Bell “wings’’ medal.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend includes the following events:
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon, held on Sunday, Jan. 29.
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Relay, a two-person team option for the half marathon.
- Never Land Family Fun Run 5K, held on Friday, Jan. 27;
- Disney Kids’ Races, held on Saturday, Jan. 28; and
- Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend Expo, a health and fitness expo.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon race and 5K have a 16 minute-per-mile pace requirement.
Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend events
The Tinker Bell half marathon starts at 5:45 a.m. PT on Sunday. It features a new race course that takes athletes to Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure and the historic downtown of Anaheim, Calif.
The 13.1 mile course begins and ends at Disneyland Park, with participants moving through Disney California Adventure Park and getting a tour of some of Anaheim landmarks. The Disney race, as with all Disney races, offers on-course music and entertainment, Disney characters. Given the race’s theme, athletes and spectators can expect to see participants in Tinker Bell costumes.
The Never Land Family Fun Run is a Disneyland Park night race that starts at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. All ages are welcomed to participate in this race, so long as they can finish the course on their own within the pace requirements. The race does not permit strollers.
The Disney Kids’ Races include different events for different ages: a diaper dash for crawlers 12 months and younger, 100m-dash for ages 1-3, 200m dash for ages 4-6, 300m dash for ages 7-8, and a 1-mile run for children ages 13 and younger who can complete it.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend Expo is the center for packet pick-up and race information, race weekend merchandise, and exhibitor booths.
Registration fees and deadlines for 2012 Tinker Bell Half Marathon
Disney’s race fees use a three-tier pricing structure to encourage early registration. Registration fees cover race entry, ChronoD timed tag and bib, on-course entertainment and support, post-race refreshments, a goody bag, a technical shirt and a finisher’s medal (certificate for kids’ races).
Tinker Bell Half Marathon
- $120 by June 12, 2011
- $130 between June 13 and Sept. 11, 2011
- $140 on or after Sept. 12, 2011
Tinker Bell Half Marathon – Two-Person Team
- $240 by June 12, 2011
- $260 between June 13 and Sept. 11, 2011
- $280 on or after Sept. 12, 2011
Never Land Family Fun Run 5K
- $99 per participant*
*Registration fees for the 5K bundles a race entry with a Twilight Theme Park ticket. The ticket provides one admission to either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure after 4 p.m. on one day (valid between Jan. 27 and Jan. 30, 2012).
Disney Kids' Races
- 1-Mile Run: $25 per child
- Kids' Dashes: $10 per child
Registration of the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend events is open.
The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is the second Disneyland half marathon and the second Disney race weekend marketed to women.
