There has already been plenty of buzz about the upcoming 2012 Super Bowl commercials, but Thursday the chatter escalated to entirely new levels when “Coming Soon” featuring Matthew Broderick hit the web. Friday morning the IB Times is sharing a bit of additional information that will keep viewers anxious for the big game and this big ad (airing February 5 on channel 12 in Scottsdale).
The 10-second video, which you can watch on the left-hand side of the page, is already a viral YouTube hit. The clip features Matthew Broderick reprising his 1980s Ferris Bueller character, and initially many viewers wondered if the video was a tease that a remake of Ferris Bueller was coming. Instead, Broderick has been tapped for a Honda 2012 Super Bowl commercial which will mimic the cult 80s film. Apparently the scene nobody can forget, where in the movie two valets take Cameron's dad's Ferrari for a big jump, will be recreated for the ad featuring the Honda CR-V. Pulling in the decades-old Ferris Bueller theme may have seemed like a big risk for Honda, but the fact that the video already has garnered over 1,000,000 hits in just a day probably tells Honda they came up with a genius idea.
Fans are anxious to see what comes next with this one, but they will have to wait until the big game on February 5. There is no word yet when during the game Honda's ad will air, but with The Hangover director Todd Phillips involved, Broderick featured and the Ferris Bueller tease, there's little question this one will be a huge hit in a sea of fierce competition. The 2012 Super Bowl and its commercials airs Sunday, February 5 on NBC, channel 12 in Scottsdale.
