The Subaru Impreza has always been popular with Denver drivers. The all-new 2012 Impreza will give them even more reason to get excited. Improvements have been made that will make the Impreza even more desirable as an all-weather Denver commuter sedan.
The 2012 Subaru Impreza is completely redesigned and is available as a sedan or hatchback. Both come in 2.0i, 2.0i Premium and 2.0i Limited trim levels, while the hatchback adds 2.0i Sport Premium and 2.0i Sport Limited trims. This week we’re testing the 2.0i Premium sedan.
Inside, the Impreza 2.0i comes standard with a three-spoke, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry, as do 60/40 split-fold seatbacks, multifunction display, full power, and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player.
Underneath, the 2012 boxer engine features a longer stroke and uses double overhead camshafts, as well as dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) for more efficient performance and lower emissions. The new engine is mated to a second generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that is lighter and helps achieve that increase in mileage.
Subaru claims that the 2012 Impreza is expected to achieve 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway with the CVT. That's compared to EPA estimates of 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the 2011 model. If those numbers are correct, it would be a 30% increase and would make the all-new Impreza the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive passenger car in the U.S. using a gasoline engine.
The 2012 Impreza also gets Subaru’s legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive all-road, all-conditions capability with a 50/50 front/rear power distribution. Subaru sells more cars in the Denver area because they are perfectly designed for our high altitude climate.
