We are about to close out the year and ringing a new one, and as we get older we definitely do get better in our choices for skin care and makeup trends; and the trends in Charleston are on par of other sophisticated cities. Charleston Fashion Week in March is one of the hottest tickets in town, but also fashionistas from all around the world also come to see the runway looks. Skincare and makeup trends in 2012 went from the runway to medical spas and day spas to the everyday women on the streets in Charleston.
In skincare the organic products, antioxidants, and peptides were the key to the better product lines and what proved to be effective in fighting skin concerns. Companies such as Image Skincare International, Eminence, and Skinceuticals, just to name a few were the product companies that emerged in Charleston as being in demand because of their ingredient content and immediate effect of the products.
In medical spas doctors cool sculpting took the place of traditional liposuction and lasers for hair removal and photo rejuvenation advanced to be used on any skin color.
In 2012 the eyes were the focal point for many women; a lash needed to have length, strength and volume and using mascara was not enough. Women used Ageless Lashes by Image Skincare International, Luca lash by Luca Products, but women also went to day spas by the masses here in Charleston to get eyelash extensions and it was not just for a “special occasion” it was to look fabulous from 9 to 5.
The look of barely there makeup was a definite must in 2012 and will continue into 2013 and this is how makeup should be done. The looks of being flawless without looking like you have tons of foundation on your face. Mineral makeup advanced; Image I-conceal foundation covered, healed, and gave you a SPF as well. Mac, Bare Minerals, and Glo-Minerals also formulated their foundations for flawless coverage. Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway and Viola Davis rocked the barely there makeup look in their own unique ways and the women of Charleston followed.
Hair removal evolved beyond waxing, threading and sugaring grew more in the amount of followers who once over tweezed or over waxed their brows or other hairy body parts. Sweet 185 in downtown Charleston and the Eyebrow Centre in the Citadel Mall had women of all ages in their chairs. Brows should frame the face and they should be full, and thin brows age the face.
The piece de resistance the lips; full or thin were either very nude or very red. The trick to wearing both looks is lining the lips and using a little foundation on the lips to help lip color stay and last longer. The nude lips require a little gloss the red just needs to be vibrant if you are going to do it, do it all the way. Taylor Swift is a great example of how red lips must be done and done right and fierce!
There you have it Charleston! The top trends of 2012 for Charleston, SC. I will see you in 2013!
