2012 was a year of politics, American and international. It was the year of Hitchcock, while it was previously the year of The Artist and its use of the theme from Vertigo.
Lincoln, vampires, (yay! Death to Twilight!) great and memorable screenplays, superheroes movies gone bad (and in the wrong type of way), Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Dredd, Chronicle and more. Joseph Gordon Levitt, the scrawny tough guy action hero Joe from Looper, Christopher Nolan's sidekick character again seen in the Dark Knight Rises wasted in Lincoln as his son and the New York City hero in Premium Rush- Levitt was definitely seen as the movie star of the year that year. Taylor Kitsch, John Carter, Savages and Battleship. Huh? It was a year that fairy tales will not be remembered by Disney (and preferably forgotten.) Speaking of which, Disney bought the once sought out super successful and influential independent special effects company known as Lucasfilm. Episode VII was announced .It was the year of breakout video game movies that really got into the mind, heart and soul of gamers and their toys and creations. Where independence demonstrated that the American dream of striking gold and oil came from creation, technique and execution rather than bloated wallets.
Now as we head towards the Academy Awards, one must ponder, will we find out the film that most represented and demonstrated the significance of this year?
