Adam Sandler leads the 2012 Razzies with 11 nominations. That's a record in the yearly Razzie Awards, given out to what are considered the worst films, actors or movie creators each year. Spokane movie-goers may have seen Sandler in the films "Jack and Jill," "Just Go with It" or "Bucky Larson" during the 2011 film season. All three of his films were first-run releases in Spokane this year, but they did not all meet with equal success at the box office.
The 11 nominations for Sandler are actually a record, this according to Entertainment Weekly. Sandler also pulled off a very difficult accomplishment, drawing worst actor and worst actress nominations in the same year. In the film "Jack and Jill," Sandler played both a brother and sister and the critics really did not like it. The film also drew a nomination for worst picture.
The other 2012 Razzie nominations for worst picture are "New Year's Eve," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1." The other nominees going up against Sandler in the category of worst actor of the year are Nick Swardson, Russell Brand, Nicolas Cage and Taylor Lautner. It would be pretty bad if Sandler ended up winning worst actor, worst actress and worst picture all in the same year.
This year the announcement of the Razzie winners will come out on April 1. Typically it is done the day before the Oscars, but not for 2012. For those Spokane movie fans interested in checking out the worst picture nominees, most of them are at Red Box locations around town. Winners will get released online rather than during a live ceremony.
For those who want to check out the movies nominated for some of the biggest awards during 2011, the 2012 Oscars are on television Sunday, Feb. 26. Spokane viewers can tune to the 84th Annual Academy at 5:30 p.m. PT on ABC (channel 4).
