Joey Logano had a rough season in 2011 in the #20 Home Depot Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing, finishing 24th in points after just six top 10s in 36 races. 2012 marks a new start for Logano, including a new crew chief.
Long-time #20 crew chief Greg Zipadelli left to take the Director of Competition position at Stewart-Haas Racing, reuniting him with his old buddy Tony Stewart and also putting him at the helm of one of the most anticipated Sprint Cup debuts in recent memory, as crew chief for Danica Patrick. In Zippy’s place will be Jason Ratcliff, long-time crew chief for JGR’s #18 Nationwide Series team, who has had much success with Kyle Busch over the last few years.
Logano, starting his fourth full-time season in the Cup Series this year, has not lived up to his billing as (the best thing since) “Sliced Bread,” a nickname given to him by former driver Randy LaJoie. He has just one win, back in his rookie season of 2009 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. In 2011, Logano earned two poles, at the road course at Infineon Raceway and the “tricky triangle” at Pocono Raceway.
2011 stats:
- No wins
- Four tops fives
- six top 10s
- Two poles
- Average starting position – 17.9
- Average finish – 19.1
