How do you write an article about Bonnie Thunders? How can anyone come up with anything that hasn’t already been said?
Bonnie Thunders is our Michael Jordan. Our Mia Hamm. Our Kerri Strug. Our Michael Phelps. Our Joe Montana. Bonnie Thunders is Absolut Roller Derby. When any derby skater talks to someone in “the real world” and we want to give them an example of the strongest skater we can think of, it is Bonnie Thunders.
She knows how to use her long, lean body in the most efficient, motion-effective way possible. This is one of the factors that set her apart from the rest of us mere mortals. No move is wasted; everything she does on the track is with purpose, but without fear. I have never seen a skater stick their head into walls with such brutal grace. Most of us fear for our safety, but not Bonnie – all she can think about is scoring more points.
As a blocker, some may actually think that she is easily pushed around, just based on her body's structure. Not so. Just as she has precise control over each muscle fiber to propel her forward with the star, so does she have exemplary power and ferociousness in her blocking. She has more control in her hips to sit and guide people where she desires than some people have in their arms to grab and drag people.
Bonnie Thunders, not to anyone’s surprise, is the New York All Star Most Valuable Player, and well deserved, too. She is a leader, a role model and the pinnacle of all things roller derby that every single one of us dream of being.
Bonnie Thunders is the epitome of an athlete. She is 120% committed to success and all of the things necessary to achieve that goal. You would be hard pressed to find an athlete anywhere as focused and driven as Bonnie Thunders. – Pitchit, Derby Deeds Done Dirt Cheap/Derby Supply/Danger Zone/Other derby-related things I'm sure
Bonnie Thunders is awesome!! She is the best roller derby player! Not only does she have amazing agility, endurance, talent, knowledge, physical and skating ability, she is also a really good coach and leader on and off the track. She is really good at coaching because she can demonstrate drills perfectly (and also makes it look easy) and she breaks down every little step of the drill so we can all be successful at it.
She is amazing on our all star team, not only is she our mvp player she also coaches us, plans our season, gives us good feedback, challenges us at every practice and etc. She is amazing on and off the track.
I think its also good to point out that not only is she the best jammer but she is a very good blocker. Have you been on the track while she's blocking? She is solid, and she uses her very quick agility to always be in front of you taking your speed and space away. Her hits are crazy awesome and she knows the game and strategy like no one else.
I could go on and on with the list of things i admire about Bonnie, she just makes it easy! I love to play on a team with her, have her as a role model, and to be able to learn from her. I have hopes that someday i'll be half as good as her – Brazilian Nut, Gotham Girls Roller Derby
