Ok, so usually when I write an article about a skater, I like to write some sort of intriguing intro, then I might explain personal experience and I finish off with talking about their style before putting some quotes I’ve gathered. I don’t need to say anything about CamArrow. What her team mates say about her sums it up, so I will let them do the talking and I will say this: CamArrow, I cannot WAIT to meet you and I hope we get to skate together soon.
I have nothing but respect and love for this lady! I think CamArrow is an extremely amazing and talented derby skater! Every year she gets better! She sets a goal to tweak and/or perfect a specific skill (or skills i'm sure) each year. By seasons end, not only has she mastered it, she has added something special to it.
CamArrow is the one I look for on the practice track. She sets the bar high. I know that I can only bring my A- game. We push each other. I improve my game by training with her--immensely. She skates hard, trains hard, hits hard, and plays hard! She plays smart. She is focused. Focused to win-both personally and as a team! I am so excited to have her as our team captain. She has great insight to the game, she is a team player, she has a deep passion to win, willingness to let others shine, and just plain old wanting the best for the SufferJets! There is soooo much talent on our team this year. I am honored to be her teammate again. CamArrow will help (and encourage) us to bring all of our "special little somethings" to the track and lead us to a winning season. - Chrysteria
When it comes to CamArrow I no doubt put her up at the top of my favorite skaters (of all time) list- she goes along side skaters like Jackie Daniels, Heavy Flo, Demanda Riot, OMG WTF, Whipity Pow, and Dolly Rocket. She is an incredible asset to the league both on an off the track. At practice I look for her to see where I should be and if I want to really challenge myself I partner up with her in drills, because I know she'll push me and encourage me to dig deep become the best skater I can possibly be. In bouts, as a SufferJet bench coach, I know I can always count on her to be where she needs to be and do the job she needs to do- even if it involves jamming at a spur of the moment when she isn't expecting it.
She's always studying up about strategies and watching bouts on DNN- both new AND older stuff from the archives. There's never been a time where I've gone to talk to her about some recent going-on in the derby world (bouts, scores, equipment, skaters, etc) and she's had no idea what I'm talking about- she lives, breathes, eats, and sleeps derby ALL while still being able to balance a wonderful work and family life along side - which I find very rare in our world.
CamArrow is a role model, a derby icon (even if the world doesn't know it yet- they will!), and most of all a *dedicated* skater whom I am proud to call my friend and league-mate. On top of all that she's incredibly humble and the first person to give credit to everyone else above herself when things all fall into place on the track.
Sorry if this is all over the place, but I honestly can't say enough how much I look up to Cam as a person and a skater. It's just so hard to put into words how fucking incredible she truly is! - Rollin' Polanski
I met Sue in late October /November 2010. I had just went to see Whip IT with my two friends t Regal Cinema in Ithaca. As I came out of the theatre this woman , among others comes over on roller skates to talk to me. It was sue. Dressed in swag , on skate with a crazy hat on. She wanted to talk to me about Roller Derby. I thought wow, she is so tall and interesting. She seems so smart. As she talked , she convinces me to sign up for a recruitment night. That was four seasons ago.
As a teammate she is smart, determined, always wanting to exceed expectations and striving for perfection. Not only for herself but for all of us. I admire her as a skater and as a teammate she always pushes me to be Bette. I stick around her in drills, at practices because I look up to her. She brings my Derby play up and makes me a better player. She is a crucial part of our team and a funding member of Ithaca SufferJet. I cannot thank her enough for knowledge she has bestowed and the time and effort she consistency puts into this. – Akt FortySeven
