The four major college wrestling rankings showered some Valentine's Day love on Minnesota and Illinois, while dropping Cornell, based on this weekend's results at the 2012 National Duals, in ratings released Tuesday.
The Golden Gophers moved up one spot to third place in two rankings after winning the Rutgers Regional Qualifying Tournament Saturday... while the Fighting Illini rose from a previous week's position of No. 7 or 8 to as high as fifth in two surveys, thanks to Illinois' 19-16 upset win over Cornell at that school's Regional on Sunday. With the loss, the previously perfect Big Red fell from as high as third place last week to No. 5-7 this week.
There was even a bit of a change at the top, as D1CollegeWrestling.net (D1CW) joined InterMatWrestle.com in putting Penn State -- a team that did not participate in the Mat Mayhem National Duals -- No. 1 this week, while Oklahoma State continues to be top-ranked, according to TheOpenMat.com (TOM) and the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll.
The NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll is an actual survey of college wrestling coaches, based on dual-meet performance; the other three rankings are determined by the staffs of their respective websites.
