2012 Mid-Atlantic South All Star: Hittsburgh #6 (Photos)

Let’s just put it out there and be honest with ourselves: We don’t expect our bigger derby girls to jam.

Let’s also put this out there: When they do, it’s freakin’ awesome.

Hittsburgh is one of those skaters. She is certainly not built like a “standard” jammer, but she is able to use her body to her advantage. She can break walls with sheer brute force, and opposing teams underestimate her stamina. As a blocker, she is able to move from offense to defense fluidly and will leave you bruised and on the floor. She has a natural sense of the game of derby, and it comes through in her awareness on the floor and with her team.

She lives for the game; her team mates know her passion and trust their captain without question because of it. Every member of Key City that I spoke to was eager to share their love of Hittsburgh with me. (Thank you to Celtic Crusher for your help)

What to say about Hitts... There is just so much! She is a wonderful teammate, skater, and Captain. When I first started skating watching her was what made me wanna keep skating. She is super inspirational! She is a triple threat on the rink, and can be an amazing jammer one minute, or kick some butt blocking and pivoting the next! She’s always there for you if you need her, whether it’s to share wheels or skate parts, or help with playing the game. She is an amazing skater! - Snake Bite Betty

On the track she is great at any position you put her in, I typically think of her as an awesome blocker but then she gets put in to jam and no one can stop her. Great foot work. And hits hard. She is a great captain and is always helping people improve Off the track she is a great person. Always friendly. My first impression of her (on the track) i was very intimidated by her... she has fun but she means business but off the track she is awesome to hang out with. I'm glad to call her a friend. – Pretty Pretty Paralyzer
