2012 Mid-Atlantic North All Star: Veronika Gettsburger #81 (Photos)

Here comes another gooshy article.

For two seasons now, I have been a Veronika Gettsburger fan. She impressed me from day one with her speed, agility, leadership and endurance. She commands a floor when she is on it. She breaks walls, ducks around opponents, hip checks like a mac truck and does it all with a smile.

What is fantastic about being a fan for a few years is that I have seen the influence she has been on her team. Her work ethic, shining attitude and team spirit has made the skaters on her team exponentially better. You can see hints of Burger in Roller Radicals past and present (Smash Potato, Big City Fights and Stevie NixHer come to mind immediately). We also can’t forget about the profound influence she’s been on her wife, and previously named All-Star, Liberty Violence.

Gettsburger is one of those girls in derby who you meet and you instantly want to be friends with her. She is strong of mind and body and sets great examples of skill and leadership. When I met Fifi Nomenon at ECDX in 2012, she immediately reminded me of Gettsburger, both in personality and skating style.

Veronika Gettsburger is one of the most positive, inspiring people I've ever encountered. Not only is she a phenomenal skater, but an amazing role model as well. There hasn't been a single time that Burger wasn't willing to help out a friend in need whether it was on the track or off. I've always looked up to her as a skater and friend. Her positive, uplifting attitude can brighten up any room, something about her positivity and outlook on life would make anyone smile. In my opinion, the derby world needs more Veronika Gettsburgers. - Jackie Kenne-Die
