2012 Mid-Atlantic North All Star: Merry Khaos #1918 (Photos)

How do you write about yourself as a skater? This one I have written several times because I don’t know what to say. First: Thank you to everyone who thinks that I am as skilled as these other amazing skaters on this list. I will try harder to see the talent and skill that maybe eludes me.

This season was rough. I transferred after East Coast Extravaganza this year to be on a team at a higher level of competition, but did so too late to try out for their all-star team. It is hard to remember your own accomplishments when time passes and injury takes you off skates. To be honest, I have felt a bit forgotten this season.

Before I left, I had managed a few things: I scored more than 50% of the points on the board against Dominion, Providence, Hudson Valley and Toronto. I had the highest lead jammer percentage in my league (about 70% over the course of six bouts), I had the highest jammer differential and I was awarded MVP against Providence. (Side note: I jammed most of the game and we only had 8 skaters by the end. In 2010 I was actually removed from the jammer position against PRD because I could NOT break their walls to save my life.)

This season I have focused on my precision, my agility, my spins/turns and avoidance skills and my endurance. Thank goodness I got my nutrition in order between ECDX and Rollercon because I have been able to lean up and be a much better jammer than previously. My team blocking skills have also increased tremendously with the guidance of leaders like Treasure Chest and Laverne n Surly. I have always modeled my blocking after team mate, Bela Lowblowsi, and I feel like I’m finally able to be a threat on the track with it.

I look forward to an awesome 2013. I come back to full contact tonight (and I am terrified, I admit!) after being out for 12 weeks with a knee injury. I cannot wait to debut with the Dutchland All-Stars and I am very excited to continue growing, teaching, writing, learning and talking about derby in 2013!

Thank you to photogs Dave Wood Photography, George Ross Sports Photography, JPaden Photography and Jim Rhoades for the awesome shots!
