2012 Mid-Atlantic North All Star: Bela Lowblowsi #99 (Photos)

Everyone who has met Bela Lowblowsi remembers her (and not just because of her incredible and intimidating bout day makeup).

Bela’s trademark is her powerful and precise positional blocking. With hips unlike another, even the strongest players on the flat track struggle to pass Bela’s long legs. She has mastered the art of ‘one-spot’ blocking so that spectators often wonder if she has a review mirror attached to her helmet to see behind her.

This all being said, Bela is also one of the most humble skaters on the floor and is always striving to hone her skills and sharpen her movements. Crisp and strong and precise are the movements of Bela Lowblowsi. Several people who sent me votes for Bela called her ‘the most under-rated skater in roller derby’ and I may have to agree with them. This skater can hang with the best in the world (in fact, many of her friends were very excited when she scored lead jammer over Bonnie Thunders during the W.F.T.D.A.-con black and white scrimmage).

Bela Lowblowsi is what roller derby is about: Strength, passion, dedication, hard work and the ability to push through to success no matter what the challenge.

Bela Lowblowsi is a fantastic roller derby player – she’s a hard worker, strategically smart, a team player, and a fierce competitor. She’s often a quiet and stoic presence; her name is frequently misspelled and/or mispronounced (people, there is no “k”; it’s NOT Lowblowski!), which is a shame because, if you ever set foot on the track against her, you’re not likely to forget her. She’s insanely strong and a talented skater - you better just hope you never get caught by her swinging hips because you will not survive.

Underneath all the talent is one of the best team mates anyone could ask for. It has been a very tough year for Dutchland and Bela has stepped it up big time for us. When we lost over half our All Star jammer rotation to retirement, Bela jammed (and jammed well!). When we lost half our coaching staff, Bela stepped up to a coaching position. I’m personally very grateful for her friendship and support through these tough times <please insert the Golden Girls theme song here>. She is the bees knees and we are very lucky to have her. – Skid Ho, Coach/Captian Dutchland All Stars
