This was a difficult category to judge, as each performer chose very strong songs to release as singles. Each of the four nominees have specific strengths, and each deserve to win.
Autumn Kramer - Power Suit - While many performers simply choose to release a song off an upcoming project directly to iTunes, Kramer actually released her single as a physical CD. The song is upbeat in an electronica pop kind of way, and is vastly different from her live acoustical efforts. Kramer shows exceptional promise for future efforts.
Keaton Simons - Other Side - Coming off the critical success of his CBS Records debut Can You Hear Me, Simons spent most of 2012 working on his live album and his upcoming debut release on his own record label, Best Revenge Records. However, he took time to drop this doozy of a teaser song to whet our appetites for the upcoming spring release of Beautiful Pain. Simons also dropped a tasty duet cover of Bring It On Home to Me with Lisa Creahan. Both songs were recorded acoustically and were thoughtful, reflective songs. Looking forward to find out what songs make it onto the upcoming release.
Bess - The People The Places - Hard to believe that Bess just turned 19. Her music displays such a maturity and depth that is almost inconceivable with her young age. Bess can only improve with time, as she already possesses the skills and creativity for a very successful career. Of her four recorded songs thus far, this single reflects the brutal honesty in her work, and points to much greater works in the not-too-distant future.
Marina V - Run - Marina V is a fireplug of a singer-songwriter who specializes in "soft rock." Born in Moscow, she has been in California for the past 10+ years where she has built up a solid fan base through her constant and consistent interaction, both on social media and at her shows. Her single Run from her upcoming crowd-funded project Inner Superhero was not only released in audio form but also as an incredible music video filmed entirely in her native Moscow.
And the winner is . . . MARINA V - Run. Since this is a single, Marina V will receive a full review of her forthcoming CD, Inner Superhero.
