The Bonner County Gardeners Association has announced the schedule for their spring series of Home Horticulture classes.
It starts on March 7 with yours truly presenting “Starting Plants with Seeds”. Covered will be testing the viability of seeds, figuring out when to start various seeds, equipment, transplanting, disease, and pre-treating difficult seeds.
“Basic Vegetable Gardening 1 & 2” by Kit Cooley, MG, will take place on March 14 & 21, and will include soil prep, planting, watering, weeding, mulch, fertilizing, pest management and harvest. The class is geared to both novice and veteran gardeners.
March 28 is “Pruning & Care of Tools” by Rich DelCarlo, certified arborist. He will tell you how to prune both fruit and ornamental trees, and how to sharpen and care for your pruning tools.
“Cutting Gardens” on April 4th is by Robin Roberts, a professional flower grower for many years. In this class she will share her knowledge of starting ornamental plants, growing them, proper techniques for cutting to create lasting bouquets, and tips on selling the flowers.
April 11th is “Landscaping with Native Plants” by Don Childress, MG and member of the Native Plant Society. Don will teach what natives do best in which situations, where to obtain those plants, and how to care for them.
On April 18th, Valle Novak, MG Emeritus, garden writer for the Daily Bee and creator of the Healing Garden at Bonner General Hospital will present “Roses for North Idaho”. She has been growing roses in the inland northwest for over 25 years and shares what roses work best here and how to care for them.
“Ergonomic Gardening” will be presented on April 25th by Meredith Evensen-Lynch, OTR/L. Meredith is an Occupational Therapist who has helped countless people find ways to keep doing what they love. This class teaches ways to garden that are easier on the body and what tools can help you.
All classes are $10 and are held from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Ponderay Event Center at 401 Bonner Mall Way, Suite E, Ponderay, ID.
