2012 Grammy Awards: Best Rock Album nominees
•Rock N Roll Party Honoring Les Paul, Jeff Beck
•Wasting Light, Foo Fighters
•Come Around Sundown, Kings of Leon
•I'm With You, Red Hot Chili Peppers
•The Whole Love, Wilco
The race for Best Rock Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards is pretty much an open-and-shut case. The Foo Fighters are about to capture this award for the fourth time in their careers.
The band's 'Wasting Light' album was one of the 2011's most acclaimed rock records, and their headlining performance at Lollapalooza cemented their status as the rock band of the year.
If there's one group here who could conceivably challenge them, it's Anthony Kiedis and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who won the award in 2007. But this just seemed to be the Foos' year - a notion only reinforced by the fact that the Grammys have invited them to perform twice on Sunday's broadcast.
Jeff Beck will get some votes for his Les Paul tribute, and the indie crowd may support Wilco, but that won't be enough to push them over the top. Kings of Leon walked away with Record of the Year in 2010, but they feel like yesterday's news.
The other artists who could've provided true competition failed to make the final cut. Coldplay's album came out too late to qualify, Mumford & Sons were eligible last year, and Bon Iver and Radiohead both end up in the Alternative field.
That being the case, the Foo Fighters are sure winners here.
