What began as a one street block party in 1995 has evolved into one of the largest visual and performing Arts Festivals in the region. The free three-day Deep Ellum Arts Festival now boasts over 200 decorative and visual artists and more than 100 bands and singer/songwriters.
A wide variety of music genres will provide the soundtrack to the weekend and will cover five stages. From punk and reggae, country and rock, and everything in between, there’s something for everyone. Featured artists and bands include The Virgin Wolves, Jessie Frye, Seryn, and Oil Boom. Check out the music schedule for times and stage locations.
There will be no shortage of activities and entertainment throughout the festival. Onsite artists will be displaying their works of art and selling some as well. Pick up a piece of artwork for your house from a local or national artist, or score a beautiful necklace or bracelet to wear home. Some pieces will even be created on the spot.
Pets are welcome to join in the fun too. Your well-trained dogs will love being a part of the Pet Parade at noon on Sunday. Dress up your four-legged friend and look for the awards and pet-related activities at Main Street and Malcolm X.
What some might consider the best part of any festival is the food, and there will be plenty of it this weekend. The Deep Ellum Restaurant Village includes several of the area’s signature restaurants that will be selling samples of their most popular dishes. In addition to local restaurant samplings, other concessions will be sold such as barbeque, health foods, desserts, beer/wine, and more. Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, American - pick your flavor.
A visit to the Longboat Key Tacos concession booth is highly recommended. Created by three Dallas guys who just like to be around family and friends behind the grill with a beer in hand, this up-and-coming taco catering company will debut their services and wildly popular tacos this weekend. Choose from brisket tacos, steak fajita tacos, and chorizo and egg tacos. If you can’t make up your mind, just order one of each – you won’t regret it. Accompanying the tacos are corn chips, salsa, fresh Pico de Gallo, guacamole, and their signature hot sauces. Try if you dare the one-of-a-kind ghost pepper sauce . . . if you can handle the heat. If your taste buds are pleased, but you haven’t gotten your fill of Longboat Key Tacos, they are available for catering your next event. Log on to their website or email them at sean@LBKTacos.com to learn more.
All food and beverage sales are conducted by exchanging coupons, which are sold in strips of 10 for $10. You can purchase these at the coupon sales booths located throughout the festival. Get outside this weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. See you there!
