Registration for the Connecticut Sound Cyclists' 35th Annual Bloomin' Metric bike tour will begin online Wednesday, February 15, Event Director Bill Meredith said today, featuring a new start location, improved food, better giveaway swag and better parking planned for the popular pedal along some of Fairfield County's loveliest roads.
This years Bloomin' Metric event will be held Sunday, May 20. REI has signed on as a sponsor, said Meredith. The ride will begin at Sherwood Island State Park, not far from either the Westport or Greens Farms Metro North train stations. This change provides riders with paved parking for more cars, permanent rest rooms, a covered pavilion and picnic tables.
There will be no "day of" registration, Meredith said, urging participants to sign up early in order to avoid being turned away. Last year, the ride sold out. The 2012 price is $48 for adults and $28 for youngsters under the age of 18 with good bike handling skills.
The ride choices - 25 miles, 75 kilometers and 100 kilometers - remain, but some adjustments will be made because of the new starting point. The tour attracts many participants from New York City and the entire metropolitan region.
As in the past, a portion of the proceeds from the entry fee will be donated to help support Bike Walk Connecticut and Northeast Community Cycles bicycle donation program.
