The biggest winner among this year's crop of adult films, hands down, is Elegant Angel's Portrait of a Call Girl. The film won Best Feature last night at the 2012 AVN Awards, earned Graham Travis the award for Best Director-Feature, and brought a Best Acress win for star Jessie Andrews, then won the new overall award for Best Movie of the Year. Adult film studio Elegant Angel won 23 AVN Awards in all, including a Best Director-Non Feature win for Mason's Asa Akira is Insatiable 2 and a Best New Series win for The Bombshells (Elegant Angel was also the big winner at the 2012 XBIZ Awards, earlier this month).
Axel Braun was another big winner last night, taking home Best Director-Body of Work honors for his parodies, including Best Parody-Drama winner Spider-Man XXX: A Porn Parody from Vivid Entertainment, which also won a Best Cinematography award and helped propel star Xander Corvus to a Best Male Newcomer award. Braun also took home Best Music Soundtrack and Best Original Song honors for Elvis XXX: A Porn Parody (Vivid Entertainment), which earned Dale DaBone a Best Actor nod for his role as the Big E himself.
Braun didn't get the Best Director-Parody nod, though: That went to Wicked Pictures' Brad Armstrong for The Rocki Whore Picture Show: A Hardcore Parody, another of the night's big winners. Rocki also won Best Parody-Comedy, Best Screenplay-Parody, Best Art Direction, Best DVD Extras, Best Editing, Best Makeup, Best Overall Marketing Campaign, and earned James Bartholet a nod for Best Non-Sex Performance.
Asa Akira is Insatiable 2 won Best All-Sex Release and Best Director-Non Feature, as well as nearly all of the Best Sex Scene categories, Best Solo Sex Scene, Best DP Scene, Best Anal Sex Scene, Best Group Sex Scene, Best Tease Performance, and Best 3-Way Sex Scene. Asa Akira won Female Performer of the Year at the 2012 XBIZ Awards earlier this month.
Other winners in the various AVN Awards film categories included Digital Playground's Cherry 2 (Best All-Girl Release), Girlfriends Films' Women Seeking Women (Best All-Girl Series), Adult Source Media's Alice in Wonderland: A XXX Animation Parody (Best Animated Release), the Anastasia Pierce/Pulse film Disciplined (Best BDSM Release), the Wicked Pictures tutorial film Jessica Drake's Guide to Wicked Sex: Fellatio (Best Educational Release), Hustler Video's This Ain't Ghostbusters XXX 3D (Best 3D Release), Adam & Eve Pictures' Grindhouse XXX (Best Comedy), Elegant Angel's Prison Girls (Best Vignette Release), and Jules Jordan Video's Dangerous Curves (Best Gonzo Release).
