2012-2013 Rugby Season returns Saturday as clubs across Florida resume action

The 2012-2013 Rugby Season resumes this coming Saturday, Jan. 5, as rugby teams from around the state of Florida return to action after taking a break for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Though not every club will compete in matches this weekend, these will be the first rugby games to be played across the state in 2013.

Tampa Bay and Jacksonville will be the only teams in the Northern Division of the Florida Rugby Union (FRU) playing this Saturday; but Boca Raton, both Miami clubs, and Fort Lauderdale will all be active in weekend games across the Southern Division of the FRU.

Tampa Bay hosts Jacksonville

The Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby Football Club (RFC) will host the Jacksonville RFC this Saturday afternoon. Going into this weekend’s match the Krewe is the only undefeated team in Florida. Kickoff time is scheduled for 2 p.m. The pitch for the game is Cuscaden Park, which is located at 2900 North 15th Street in Tampa, Fla.

Boca Raton hosting Miami Tridents

The Boca Raton Buccaneers RFC will be hosting the Miami Tridents RFC on Saturday. The match will be played on the Buccaneers home pitch located at Don Estridge Middle School. The address for the game is 1798 Northwest Spanish River Blvd in Boca Raton, Fla. Kickoff time is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Boca Raton ‘B’ team hosts Palm Beach

After the conclusion of the Buccaneers 'A' team's match against Fort Lauderdale, he Boca Raton Buccaneers RFC ‘B’ team (Division II) will host the Division III Palm Beach Panthers RFC on Saturday at Don Estridge Middle School. Kickoff time for the Buccaneers versus Panthers match will be 3:30 p.m.

Miami RFC to host Fort Lauderdale

The Miami RFC is scheduled to host the Fort Lauderdale Knights RFC this Saturday afternoon. Kickoff time for this match will be 2 p.m. This game will be played on the Miami RFC home pitch at Ives Dairy Estates. The address for the pitch is 20901 Northeast 16th Avenue in Miami, Fla.

Remainder of Division II men’s clubs resume action next week

The remainder of the Division II men’s clubs – the Daytona Beach Coconuts RFC (northern division), the Naples Hammerheads RFC (southern division), the Orlando Griffins RFC (northern division), and the St. Petersburg Pelicans RFC (northern division) will resume action next Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12.
