Have you ever walked past your local pet store's window and wished that you could take home one of those adorable dogs or cats that afternoon? Well on Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 at Cipriani 42nd Street, New York The Animal Medical Center of New York (www.amcny.org) held its 2011 Top Dog Gala. The gala was chaired by Annette de La Renta, Nancy Kissenger and Barbara Lieberman. The event, a fundraiser for The Animal Medical Center of New York will help support the center and its wide range of specialized veterinary services and state-of-the art health care programs for dogs, cats and exotic pets.
Now the history of The Animal Medical Center goes back to 1906 when Ellin Prince Speyer founded the Women's Auxiliary to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Ellin and her colleagues developed their organization as a way to supplement the activites of the male dominated ASPCA. It was this branch of the organization that would become The Animal Medical Center. Now, after a long history of struggle, by the 1980's the AMC had begun to set itself apart as an institute of higher learning as well as a place to care for these animals. In addition to medical care for animals the center also sponsors regular lectures and seminars and clinical training programs for senior veterinary students, visiting veterinarians as well animal health technicians.
So if you are a pet lover or a would be pet lover and want to continue to insure the best possible care and research for these little ones then visit www.amcny.org to learn more.
