2011 Toledo Walleye training camp starts Friday

Another season of Toledo Walleye is soon approaching and it's almost time for the 2011-12 players to hit the ice for the Toledo Walleye 2011 training camp at the Huntington Center. Players signed to the Walleye roster and those hoping to make the team will participate in the camp, which starts Friday, September 30, 2011.

Practices are open to the public and begin at 10:00 a.m. daily through opening night, October 15, 2011. Typically, on-ice activities last until 11:15 a.m. with no practice on Sunday, October 9, 2011.

Head coach Nick Vitucci will be working with the young and talented players in advance of the third season of Walleye hockey in Toledo. He'll also lead the squad in two pre-season contests, both against the Kalamazoo Wings.

The first exhibition game takes place in Kalamazoo on Friday, October 7, 2011, then both teams return to Toledo for a second game on Saturday, October 9, 2011. Tickets are available for both games.

Among those invited to camp include returning favorites like Evan Rankin, Kyle Page, Scott Fletcher and Kyle Rogers as well as new-to-Toledo players like forwards Kevin Harvey, Aaron Lewicki and Harrison Reed and defensemen like Matt Krug, Dale Warkentin and Toledo Cherokee alumni Phil Rauch.

Additionally, seven from the team's free agent tryouts have been invited to camp with the opportunity to compete for a roster spot. Forwards Anthony Longo, Nikita Mandrik and Lee McClure, defensemen Michael Jordan and Tim Brownell and goaltenders Michael Bacashihua and Kal Saimbhi were picked from the 72 players that attended the August auditions.

With a few roster spots yet to be filled, these hopefuls and others still have a chance to be part of Toledo Walleye hockey in the 2011-12 season. Fans can get involved too by purchasing season, partial-season and individual tickets from the Huntington Center box office, from ToledoWalleye.com or by phone at (419) 725-WALL.
