2011 Southeastern Conference football predictions

See also

The Southeastern Conference is without question the best conference in college football.

For the past five years, the SEC has dominated the crystal ball by winning the last five BCS national championships. The amazing thing is four different teams (Florida 2006 and 2008), LSU (2007), Alabama (2009) and Auburn (2010) have earned college football's biggest prize. Three of the four teams reside in the SEC West which at one point had five teams ranked in the Top 20 last year. In addition, three of the last four Heisman Trophy winners have come from the SEC.

There will be plenty of challenges ahead if SEC wants to defend its home turf in New Orleans this January. Several quarterbacks must be found, Auburn and Florida must overcome a major movement due to poor recruiting by previous coaches at the end of their reign and tough non-conference opponents like Boise State, Oregon and Texas A & M must be navigated.

But don't be surprised again if the SEC is celebrating for the sixth straight year January 9 in New Orleans.

Here are my 2011 SEC predictions

1. Alabama 7-1, 12-1

2. LSU 7-1, 11-1

3. Arkansas 7-1, 11-1

4. Auburn 4-4, 8-4

5. Mississippi State 3-5, 7-5

6. Mississippi 0-8, 3-9

1. South Carolina 6-2, 10-3

2. Florida 5-3, 7-5

3. Georgia 5-3, 9-3

4. Tennessee 2-6, 6-6

5. Kentucky 2-6, 6-6

6. Vanderbilt 0-8, 2-10

Alabama will win SEC West title due to highest BCS ranking.

Alabama will defeat South Carolina in SEC Championship Game December 3 in Atlanta.
