2011 Run Like Hell

Sweetest Day may technically fall in mid-October, but I think we all know that the sweetest day is really Oct. 31. Walking door-to-door for a solid two hours while strangers throw gobs of chocolate and sugared candies into a bag half the size of your body? Might as well bid your farewells now because a holiday like that could have you in a sugar coma for weeks.

This weekend may be a good time to take those Marathon Bars to heart -- instead of to your waist -- and fit in a little extra exercise.

The 2011 Run Like Hell is Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. This 3.1-mile course starts and finishes at 3614 Woodburn Ave., and winds throughout the neighboring streets, including a cemetery.

But, the run is practically an afterthought, as most participants don a Halloween costume to get in the spooky spirit a little early. An after-party immediately follows, complete with food, beer and a live band.

Online registration is now closed, but those still interested can register and pick up their packets at the following locations, for a $40 fee:

  • Oct. 24, City BBQ, Florence KY, 8026 Burlington Pike, 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 25, City BBQ, West Chester, OH, 7706 Voice of America Centre Dr., 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 26, City BBQ, Hyde Park Plaza, 3880 Paxton Ave., 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 27, Fleet Feet Sports, 9525 Kenwood Rd., 3 to 8 p.m.

The race-day fee is $45. Those just in it for the post-race fun may purchase party-only tickets for $20. Proceeds benefit the Greater Cincinnati Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and goes towards vital CF research.
