2011 Las Vegas visitation second highest in history

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority ( LVCVA ) just announced a 38.9 million visitor count for 2011, the second highest total in Vegas history. That total was slightly less than the record 39.2 million visitors observed in 2007.

Las Vegas saw 4.3% more visitors in 2011 than in 2010 and maintained a city - wide occupancy rate of almost 84% for the year. That occupancy rate is significant in a town with over 150,000 hotel rooms. Las Vegas has undergone 22 consecutive months of year over year growth in both visitation and average daily room rates through December 2011. The yearly average daily room rate was $105 city - wide.

Overall, the Las Vegas Strip casinos saw a 5.1% increase in gaming revenue last year versus 2010, with a total revenue of just over $6 billion.

Recovery in the convention industry and an increase in the foreign / international visitor market contributed to the spiking visitation numbers last year. Vegas hosted 8.8% more business travelers and held nearly 6% more convention / business events in 2011 compared to 2010. The city hosted more than 19,000 meetings and conventions and still remains the number 1 trade show destination in North America.
