2011 high school football brackets to undergo many changes

The Central Board of the Alabama High School Athletic Association voted to change the first round brackets for this year's state football playoffs.

The board voted to change the brackets by pairing up Region 1 against Region 3 and Region 2 facing Region 4.

During the past few seasons, the AHSAA has paired the regions based on adjacent geographical areas by having Region 1 face Region 2 and Region 3 tangling with Region 4.

The rotation change could be a major benefit for Wiregrass schools who have struggled mightily in the first and second rounds of the state football playoffs during the past few seasons.

The lone exceptions could be 2A, Region 3 and 5A, Region 2.

2A, Region 3 involving Houston County, Houston Academy, Cottonwood and Providence Christian School must face Region 1 that includes defending state champion Leroy, longtime power Southern Choctaw and resurgent newcomer Mobile Christian.

5A, Region 2 schools Charles Henderson, Eufaula, Rehobeth and Carroll-Ozark are paired against Class 5A, Region 4 Birmingham area schools McAdory, Hueytown, John Carroll Catholic and Pleasant Grove in 2011.

The rest of playoff bracket for next season will be revealed sometime prior to the start of the new school year.
