It is that time of year again. The Scout show is coming to The National Western Complex on April 16, 2011. The theme of this year’s show is “The Next Adventure”. This is the time for all to see what the different adventures of Scouting are all about in the Denver area. There will be booths operated by Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews. There is truly something for everyone.
This is the opportunity to look at all the scouting units. You can join any unit that you are willing to attend and is age appropriate for the youth. This is a great time to see what Boy Scouts offers for your Cub Scout or maybe Venturing for your teenaged son or daughter. Each unit is as different as a fingerprint. They all have different activities and interests for your youth because the packs, troops and crews reflect the interests of the participants. You can see this at the Scout Show as many will have photos and displays of what they do in the great outdoors.
The Denver Area Council has much to offer too. This is your chance to find out about all sorts of trainings and adventures. See what summer camp at Peaceful Valley is all about. There are programs for Cub scouts, Boy Scouts Venturing and even the whole family. Find out if Wood Badge is right for you this year, there is a course scheduled for the fall of 2011 you might join. What is the Tahosa Alumni up to these days? There are great opportunities at Tahosa to spend a day or a whole week. Check out all of the Cub Day Camp opportunities too.
Many of the Crews have great displays. These co-ed teenaged groups in the past have set up displays involving paramedic equipment, K-9 dogs and even large sail boats. Seeking out the far corners of the hall you will find shooting sports and the arena often has great adventures involving rope bridges and climbing skills. Outside the fun continues with many Dutch Ovens simmering over heat and they always have wonderful things to smell and taste.
There are vendors there to tempt you with great camping and hiking gear. There are booths to assist you with program planning and choices of places to go camping. You can visit catering options for your Blue and Gold Banquets or Courts of Honor.
There is also a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community. Bonfils provides mobile donation units. They are staffed with wonderful people who are glad to have you come and donate a little of your time and blood. Each year over 100 units are donated. This year be sure that one pint is yours. One pint of blood can save up to three lives. For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate contact jvbeatt@msn.com.
A single Scout Show ticket is $10 for the whole family. For additional information see Denver Boy Scouts. Contact your local scout unit to get a ticket or you can purchase admission at the door. See you all at 10AM at the Scout Show.
