If you know anything about the gay, transgendered, lesbian and bisexual community in Denver, you know they are a proud lot. I am proud to say that Denver is one of the largest GTLB cities outside of San Francisco. Denverites, on average, accept each other, which nurtures a sense of mutual respect. It is one of the ways we are different from other metropolitan cities. We are a sunnier version of New York City, minus the bad attitude and grittiness.

This weekend, join your neighbors at Pridefest, a celebration for everyone in the family. Recognized as one of the largest GTLB celebrations in the nation, this year’s PrideFest turns 36 years old. The parade, sponsored by Coors Light, begins in Cheesman Park at 9:30am and heads down Colfax to Civic Center Park.

Once the parade (and subsequent rally) arrives, enjoy a day of music, karaoke, dancing, games, contest and vendors. Carmen Carrera of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stops by at 3pm. Don’t miss the Michael Jackson Tribute, Saturday at 3:30 on the main stage. A Pridefest favorite, “The Gayest Dating Game Ever” is back on Sunday at 1:15pm. Don’t miss R&B Diva legend, Thelma Houston on the main stage at 3:30pm.

Your beloved pooch is welcomed at PrideFest. Bring your dog to the Pooch Pavilion, sponsored by Petco, for water, shade and good company. Stay for the popular, “Dogs in Drag” contest at 12:30pm Saturday, hosted by my favorite Drag Queen, Nuclia Waste. If you’d like to enter your pooch into the contest (there are various categories and prizes), come earlier to register. The registration fee, $5, benefits The Center.
