The Caesar Rodney Half Marathon was held this morning in Wilmington, Delaware, on a brisk and sunny day in the low 30s. The 9:30 start is a big perk about this race, and the fact that you can pick up your packet the morning of the race. Nothing beats not having to drive to the race area twice in one weekend! Packet pickup went smoothly beginning at 7:30am. The 5k race went off at 8:30am followed by the Half Marathon at 9:30. A very loud cannon went off to signal the start of the race.

The first mile of the race includes a downhill and the next five miles are relatively flat, running through the shopping area, past the Blue Rocks stadium and down the water front. Around mile 6, runners pass by more beautiful water and head uphill for some challenging miles. From mile 6 to the finish, there were various hills, with some flat parts mixed in, but the last stretch was a huge uphill to the finish line! It made for a challenging course but was a beautiful day to race a half marathon.
This is a great race for Philadelphia area runners, especially those training for Boston, with the hills included along the course, and it is only about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia.

28-year old Daryl Brown of Exton won the half marathon in 1:09:46. 40-year old Amy Blithe of Wilmington was the first female finisher in 1:24:17. Mike Carriglitto of Pottstown was in 4th place in 1:16:05, and Stephen Metraux of Philadelphia was 10th in 1:20:49.
Linda Hawke of Malvern was the 2nd female finishing in 1:25:30, Kathryn Bowser of Thorndale was third in 1:26:25.
