"What's Your Everest?" promotion.
A partnership announced this week between Universal Sports and Champion Athletic Apparel will show videos of six 2010 U.S. Winter Olympians sharing their personal dreams and goals in the Champion "What's Your Everest?" promotion.

NBC / UniversalSports.com will air the athletes' video vignettes now through the end of 2009 during coverage of major winter sporting events on its broadcast channel carried by cable and satellite TV providers and on the UniversalSports.com Web site.
The personal dreams of these super athletes are pretty predictable...they want to go the the Games and win...but there are highlights: Skier Tyson Bolduc, for instance, says "besides life itself" his personal Everest is to earn a helicopter pilot's license and land people on mountain tops so they can have the experience he's had.
Another highlight was 47-year-old Ruben Gonzalez, who admits he chose the luge because his strong suit "was always perseverance." He wanted a sport where there are "a lot of broken bones" and a lot of people who quit since his philosophy was, "I just won't quit."
The other participating athletes are Bill Schuffenhauer (bobsled), Marco Sullivan (alpine skiing), Shannon Bahrke (freestyle mogul) and Steve Nyman (alpine skiing).
Champion is partnering in a Mount Everest expedition in spring 2010, including outfitting the climbing team with Champion and Duofold cold-weather gear, and has created an Expedition Champion Web site, www.ClimbEverestWithUs.com. Visitors to Champion's Everest Web site can enter the "What's Your Everest?" contest by submitting a video or essay answering the question for a chance to win $10,000.
The video on the Universal site are clunky, and played on a beta version of a video player that makes you want to scream for the comfort of YouTube. Hopefully that will be fixed before the contest ends. In the meantime, the online Olympians are just a small part of the larger "What's Your Everest?" contest which is on a site that is much easier to use.
