Toyota issues second massive recall in four months. On Thursday, January 21, 2010 Toyota issued a voluntary recall of 2.3 million Toyota vehicles because of problems with the accelerator pedals sticking. The following vehicles were listed in the recall:
RAV4 2009-2010 models
Corolla 2009-2010 models
Matrix 2009-2010 models
Avalon 2005-2010 models
Camry 2007-2010 models
Highlander 2010 model
Tundra 2007-2010 models
Sequoia 2008-2010 models
In November, Toyota announced that they would replace over 4 million gas pedals after it was shown that the gas pedal can be held down with the place mat. Toyota said Wednesday that new pedals will be installed in April of 2010. In September, Toyota first asked drivers to remove the floor mats for safety reasons. The recall was initially investigated after a Lexus was involved in a fatal accident in California, after it exceeded speeds of 120 mph. A panic call to 911 reported that the driver said that the accelerator was stuck. For more information on that recall, click here.
The recall is nationwide. For more information, owners can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or the NHTSA hotline at 888-327-4236 or the NHTSA website.
