2010 TAP-NY Preview

Thousands of craft beer fans will flock to Hunter Mountain this weekend for the TAP-NY craft beer festival.

This years edition of the TAP-NY festival is set to kick off at Hunter Mountain this Saturday, April 24th at 1 p.m.  The first session will run until 5 p.m. and the second session will run on Sunday from 12 noon until 4 p.m.  TAP-NY is the largest beer festival in New York with over 4,000 people attending both sessions.  This year 49 breweries have been invited and 36 have confirmed.

This year the Capital District will be represented by three local breweries at TAP-NY.  Brown's Brewing Company of Troy, C.H. Evans Ale/Albany Pump Station of Albany, and Olde Saratoga Brewing Company of Saratoga Springs will all be pouring their beer.

In addition to sharing their beer with thousands of craft beer fans, the local breweries will be competeing for the The Matthew Vassar Brewers' Cup as well as the F.X. Matt Memorial Cup.  The Matthew Vassar Cup recognizes the Best Craft Beer Brewery in the Hudson Valley, and the F.X. Matt Memorial Cup goes to the Best Craft Beer Brewery in New York State.  No Capital District brewery has ever won the F.X Matt Cup, but the Matthew Vassar Cup has traveled up the Thruway four seperate times.  Brown's Brewing won the cup in 1998 under their previous name Troy Pub & Brewery, and then took the cup home again ten years later.  The Cup returned next year when the now defunct Big House Brewing Company of Albany won in 1999 and the Original Saratoga Springs Brewpub won in 2004.

Here is what the three local breweries will be pouring this weekend.
