2010 Summer camps and classes in SW Florida

It's not too late to sign up for a variety of summer camps for your kids in S.W. Florida. If you think you waited too long to choose one, there are still available slots in several camps and classes being held in July and August. And guess what, some of these will interest you too, parents!

KIDZ Culinary Camp 2010

The Flying Pig Catering Company is once again offering its popular KidZ Culinary Camp for summer. Chef Lisa Fidler and other local chefs will be on hand to teach campers a variety of cooking classes.

These chefs will be showing young cooks (ages 8 to 14) how to safely handle food, equipment and knives. Not only will campers learn how to cook healthy and delicious recipes, they will also learn how to set and serve a table properly.

One-week camp sessions for the summer of 2010 include the following dates:

  • July 12-16
  • July 19-23
  • July 26-30
  • Aug 2-6

Since classes are limited to 12 children, these may fill up quickly. The cost of one week of camp is $350 per person and includes all supplies for each week. For more information, go online to The Flying Pig or call the company directly at 239-337-3744.

Arts for Act Gallery Painting Classes

Audrey Becker will be offering a children's two hour art class held on Tuesdays for six weeks. The fee is $150 per child which does include all art supplies. Multiple sibling discounts are available.

Audrey will also be teaching an adult art class which is a four hour class held on Saturdays. The fee for this course is also $150 per person. Students will learn the basic theories of art. This will include:

  • perspective
  • composition
  • shading
  • color theory

The class size will be from 6-12 students, so sign up now! Call the Arts for Act Gallery at 239-337-5050 or contact them online at Arts for Act Gallery.

Guided Kayak Nature Tours for Kids & Adults

If you're looking for a new skill to learn with your kids, kayaking is a wonderful way to spend time together while enjoying nature from the viewpoint of the water. A GAEA guide is a certified Florida Master Naturalist and will take you and your kids on a front row tour of the best of S.W. Florida.

From morning trips on Estero Bay to lunch on the back waters of Matlacha Pass, to beautiful sunset tours on the Caloosahatchee River, paddling with a tour guide will open your eyes to the birds and marine life who inhabit our area. Learning how to kayak is a life skill that can be revisited long into your sunset years. Call 239-694-5513 for a reservation.

Imaginarium Summer Camps

The Hands-On museum is offering more fun this summer with a variety of activities and interactive experiences for all ages. Weekly camps with themes like Animal Adventures, Architecture Adventure, Dino Dig, Gadgets & Gizmos, Radical Robots, and more use a variety of curricula and imagination to make learning fun. Camps will be running through the summer, ending Aug. 20th.

Camps begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. and sibling discounts are also available. To find out if there are any openings left for your children, call 239-321-7410 or contact them online at Imaginarium Museum.
