The Lexington Legends will have another familiar face giving advice in the dugout this season. Former Canadian stand out, and Legends hitting coach Stubby Clapp will rejoin the team this season after a one year hiatus.
Clapp, who held the position of hitting coach in 2008, comes back this year and is the Legend's only coach with Major League experience.
In 2001, Clapp was called up to the St. Louis Cardinals, and played in 23 games, notching 5 hits in 25 at bats. While Clapp did see time in the big leagues, the majority of his playing days were spent in Canada and in the minor leagues.
In 911 minor league games, Clapp was a career .270 hitter, with 48 home runs, 365 RBI's and 83 steals. Clapp proved his versatility, even pitching in three games, and allowing only 2 hits in 2.1 innings of work.
While playing in Canada, Clapp was a member of team Canada in the 2004 Athens Olympics and again 2008 Beijing Olympics. Clapp also represented his home country in 2006 and in 2009 for the World Baseball Classic.
Clapp is known as a charismatic figure, who fans and players alike remember, and will look to help mold the young talent coming through the Astro's organization as he attempts to further his coaching career.
Be sure to check back next week as we continue our 2010 preview by taking a look at pitching coach Travis Driskill.
