The world of terrorism in this last decade has hit home for many in Canada, this is the world and society we are forced to live in, caused by those who relish the fact we live in terror.

Security is at an all time high in Vancouver in preparation for the 2010 Olympic Games. One Vancouver citizen feels the use of explosive sniffing dogs on the Vancouver transit may be going too far during the preparation for the 2010 Olympics.

Perhaps for one Vancouverite this is going too far.  Many countries around the globe use bomb sniffing dogs, this is the world we now live when terrorist's give no quarter to anyone, let alone an Olympic venue.  The 2010 Olympics will be watched by billions and attended by millions.   What better way for any terrorist to get their worldwide message across than our Canadian 2010 Olympics?

That said, the explosive sniffing dogs will not be a permanent fixture in other places around the world, they will only be used until the 2010 Olympics are over.

The saying when in Rome, can certainly apply in this case, where the safety and security of the vast majority Canadians, including tourists from all over the world we have to protect from harm, far outweigh the religious indifference and minor inconvenience of a single citizen or group.

In Britain where islamic terrorist bombings hit home, they have a far more serious threat than in Canada. The British government recently kowtowed to special cultural interests and have forbidden bomb sniffing dogs from interacting with people of the Muslim faith, though it also stated all passengers must be protected against explosive sniffing dogs.  Certainly terrorists would see this as good news.

Those who take offense to bomb sniffing dogs should know in most countries they are used far more frequent than for a few months as in this case. Do these citizens also apply the same concerns to other countries who use bomb and drug sniffing dogs, or is this another case of Vancouver's leniency to whichever the wind blows when it comes to offending a culture, no matter how insignificant?  There seems to be an instance a few years ago one culture felt slighted by having to take off their burka in order to vote or have their photo taken for a drivers license, leading many governments to scramble to appease this culture. Certainly just one or two cases of many that have Canadians thinking, Have we lost just a war?  Perhaps not a world war, but a cultural war where many feel some wish groups insist to be treated better than others.

Canada, where everyone is to be treated equally by law, must apply to all and not more or less equal than the rest of us, especially if it is a minor inconvenience as there are many other forms of transport available during this short time.

What is wonderful about living in Canada, is that anyone is free to leave if they feel Canadian society is not to their liking.

A marker of a great democracy at work is to research countries all over the world whose citizens from non democratic countries overwhelmingly wish to emigrate to democratic countries versus how many citizens of democratic countries who desire to immigrate to their non democratic country, something I am sure this complainant is fully cognizant of, not to mention Muslims in the middle east at one time bred some of the most finest hunting and racing dogs belie that theory as well.

Again, when in Canada, taking a cue, when in Rome............

Barry are you kidding? Kowtowing is the flavour of the new Millenium. It is only a matter of time before someone kowtows in Vancouver.

    Let the dogs sniff.
Is it your country, or is it their country?

Wow, really? Why is this even an issue? I'm sure the dogs won't be slobbering all over people.
