2010 Michigan Bike Festival

The Michigan Mountain Biking Association's Northern Chapter hosted this year's Michigan Bike Festival at Hanson Hills Recreation Area in Grayling over Labor Day weekend, September 3–4, 2010. The Logsplitter was the biggest draw, but there were other great social activities during the weekend.

The Logsplitter is a 30-mile race that began at Hartwick Pines State Park and ended at the Hanson Hills Recreation Area in Grayling. Sixty-one riders participated in the race in spite of the rain. The race was a success and raised money for the MMBA Northern Chapter to use toward mountain bike trails in Northern Michigan.

Bike Festival participants could camp on the Hanson Hills grounds, but most chose the comfort of dry hotel rooms over the wet ground. They enjoyed the live entertainment on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Northern Michigan's Jelly Roll Blues Band entertained guests on Friday night. The band gave an excellent performance and even held a jam session with a kid who was learning how to play guitar.

Kalamazoo's Who Hit John? took the stage, Saturday night, and shared the spotlight with another kid. The Michigan Bike Festival was one of the last stops on the bluegrass band's tour.
