Lexus is the premium brand from
Toyota
and the IS models are the rear drive, high-performance versions.

Sedan
versions of the Lexus IS models are virtually unchanged for 2010, but a new convertible model comes aboard for 2010. The IS 250 is available as either a sedan or a convertible.

Base engine is a 2.5-liter V-6 rated at 204 horsepower and delivers outstanding EPA estimated fuel economy numbers of 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon on the highway with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

Both the IS 250 and the IS 350 are available with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions. Safety features include airbags; front, side, side curtain and knee; ABS, traction control and anti-skid.

Our tester was a rear-wheel drive IS 250 which featured the standard leather upholstery and sunroof. The 2.5-liter V-6 engine is just adequate with regards to performance and it’s outstanding when it comes to fuel economy but we think the larger engines would deliver better performance.

We found all the usual Lexus attributes of excellent build quality and high-quality materials but headroom and rear seat room was lacking.

Prices range from $32,000 up to $57,000 for the V-8 powered ultra high-performance F model. However, on our scale of one to five, four tires and a spare we rate the 2010 Lexus IS 250 a four plus.
